Shore excursions... What, When & How

Some cruise lines still send us a Shore Excursion brochure witch we will forward to you at the latest with the cruise tickets, listing and describing all the shore excursions you can take on the cruise. Even better now once your voyage is confirmed you can view all excursions on your cruise and book them before you go. Once we have completed your booking we send a "what happens next" e mail with easy links to follow to view and book your shore excursions with the cruise line.
A top tip is to book Tours that are marked as “limited numbers” as they tend to get booked quickly and these may be full if you wait until you are onboard.

When you arrive onboard you should find an Excursions brochure and booking form in your cabin. On many ships there will be an Excursions Presentation early in the cruise and an Excursion Channel on your cabin TV with continuous coverage of what is on offer. If you have any questions go to the Excursions Desk (normally in the main foyer) Tip if you want to avoid queues complete the booking form and leave it in the drop box at the Excursions Office, and your shipboard account will be charged and your tickets delivered to your cabin but note that there are deadlines for booking excursions - usually 24 hours before arriving in the port.

The length of excursions will depend on the time in port but you will normally have a choice of half day or full day tours. Most tours will depart early on arrival in a port and in some ports it will be possible to take both a morning and afternoon tour. Tours usually assemble in one of the ship’s lounges or on the quayside but there will be no announcements so check your tickets and the Daily Programme for the time and assembly point. The Excursion Office staff will direct you to your bus. When the tour is finished the bus will drop you at the ship or in the town if there is time for shopping.

Costs can range from £20 to £35 per person for a half day tour and £45 to £80 for a full day. However tours can be now more adventurous including helicopter rides so if you do wish to do it in style then budget well.

Going alone ? Many experienced cruises will know and choose to do this them self's witch is absolutely fine just remember to be back on board at the time requested which will be on the newsletter I advised in my previous blog.

Going ashore

On your cruise you will have the chance to get off and visit the ports of call. Here is your chance to explore new places, learn the history, view the sights, shop for souvenirs or maybe just sunbathe on that sandy beach. You will know from your cruise itinerary what ports you are going to visit and when. These days once your cruise is booked you are able to view your personal booking online including your shore excursions & you are able to book before you travel. If you decide to wait until on board you can attend the Excursions or Port presentation and decide if you are going to take the organised option or explore on your own.

Generally on board the day before arriving a new port there will normally be a Port Talk on what you will find ashore including transportation, shops, beaches, excursions and any security issues. This talk is often repeated on the video channel in your cabin. A printed Port Briefing is provided with a simple map and a summary of all the talk details - this will also be delivered to your cabin so you can plan your day.We have a selection of copies of some at port guides on our website that are very useful.

Many of you will all know this information already as you have traveled more then once on a cruise, the above is for the new to cruisers so for all experienced travellers what do you do?

Are the ship's excursions a rip off ?

*Do your research cruise line's can be more expensive but they are good at what they do. compare the prices with local excursion operaters , one I recommend shore excursions & tours

Do you prefer to explore yourself ?

*I myself generally prefer to get of and do my own thing, the news letter delivered to the cabin the day before is my bible for the day & I wouldn't be without it.

If you do do your own thing remember Cinderella - unless you are on a ship’s excursion, you are not covered by the ship’s insurance and the ship will sail without you if you do not get back before departure. The sailing time is clearly shown in the Daily Programme, on the Port Briefing and at the bottom of the gangway and passengers are asked to be back on board 30 minutes before then. If the worst happens and you do miss the boat, contact the cruise line’s agent for the port - their telephone number and address will be shown in the Daily Programme or Port Briefing, so like me make sure you take it with you, Prince charming will not be able to help you.

It's finally arrived my long awaited summer holiday. I am off to Ibiza with family and friends and far to many children for my liking but never the less I am extremely looking forward to it.

I have done exactly what I try not to do "READ REVIEWS " It gets me every time. As always the reviews are very good but a couple are so bad it makes you question your decision.

One of my valued passengers has just returned from an Azamara Cruise which he booked from a very special offer we had and he could just about squeeze in another voyage, so went for it and took full advantage of my low prices.

"back from our azamara cruise,and what a good cruise it was.I would recommend them to anyone,especially at the price we paid! We were met at the airport and given a taxi to the ship. Check in was very efficient, our cabin had plenty of room with a balcony and a settee,although the bathroom was rather small. Plenty of restaurants,food in the main one was very good with a wide choice of dishes, the two speciality ones were excellent with big windows and excellent service although there is a cover charge of 15$ a head I thought it good value. The buffet restaurant was very good for breakfast and lunch but would not recommend it for dinner. Entertainment was very good with a 7 piece band a duo ,harpist, guitarist, pianist, 5 singers and a talented cruise director. Public rooms were very good with a big cabaret room a lovely observation lounge and very nice coffee shop ,there was also a library and casino. There was music all the way from shows to jazz sessions, I thought the choice of so much music was exceptional. Wine with lunch and dinner was good quality and plentiful and included in the fare as was water and soft drinks, bottles of water were available for taking on trips. In my view azamara are beginning to rival regent and silverseas with their service and amenities. What I don`t know is relative costs, but if you don`t drink they would be good value. I would certainly go again."

Too Big To Fill ?

Celebrity Silhouette is yet another Giant cruise ship, launching this July she has just recently squeezed through a tiny canal on it's maiden voyage from Germany

Not only did the captain of the 'Celebrity Silhouette' have to maneuver the ship through a gap only 1.5 metres wider than its hull - but the move had to be done in reverse.

The £500 million cruise liner, which is over 36 metres wide, was precisely navigated along the River Ems in Germany.

In order to avoid disaster, the liner was only able to travel at 4 miles per hour taking twelve hours to complete the 26 mile journey out to the open sea, assisted by tugboats.

The 'Celebrity Silhouette' will make its way to Emshaven in the Netherlands for its finishing touches before sailing to Hamburg where it will be officially launched on July 21.

You can join her on the 23rd July in Hamburg where she will cruise to Rome for the rest of the summer a 7 day cruise and six days at sea & just one port calling in to Barcelona on the six day they still have availability on this voyage for £899 per person for a balcony cabin.

More changes for Freedom, Smoking on board,

This time from Princess cruises.

From January 2012 they are introducing a much more restrictive policy, and are now banning smoking in all staterooms and on balconies on all voyages.

Fair ?

They have said it is part of an ongoing commitment to ensure that every passenger has a comfortable cruise experience.

Countries around the world from North America to Europe are moving to more restrictive smoking policies and they have said that latest consumer studies show that smokers are a small minority of our passengers. In fact, the vast majority of cruisers value having their primary living space (both stateroom and balcony) smoke-free. As you know, balconies are a hallmark of Princess Cruises, and it is important to keep this peaceful space clear of smoke.

How can they ensure that passengers will not still try and smoke on the balconies ?

Any Violations to this policy will result in a $250 fine for each occurrence, which will be charged to the passenger’s stateroom account. Keeping with the global trend and honoring the wishes of our passengers, the change will enhance any on board experience and do more to help passengers escape completely from smoke.

Of course they welcome passengers who smoke, and will continue to provide convenient smoking areas throughout each ship, including cigar lounges, a section of the nightclub and casino, and a portion of the open decks.

Already booked and not happy with this change ?

Notifications to clients already booked on voyages that depart after 15th January 2012, will be sent out in due course but they are not offering passengers the chance to cancel free of charge.

I think smokers on a whole will expect this change as used to all the restriction's in place here at home. But I am sure their will still be many passengers not happy with the freedom of being able to smoke on the balcony ?

Bad News For Liverpool Port

Despite the presence of a new Pier Head cruise terminal on its city centre waterfront, the port of Liverpool is to lose the business of one of its most valued customers, Fred. Olsen Cruises.

Why ?

Because the port terminal is out of bounds for ship turnarounds ? ( passengers getting on & off at same port ) As the facility was partly funded by the EU, Liverpool's rival, Southampton, itself privately funded, successfully launched a fierce protest about unfair competition. As a result, Pier Head may only be used for day visits by ships -- not for turnarounds.

Despite this setback, Fred. Olsen has remained faithful to Liverpool, using an alternative dock at the nearby commercial harbour of Langton. But not only is Langton overlooked by a scrap heap, it's also prey to fast tides and high winds, making getting ships in and out complicated and unpredictable.

Liverpool City Council is still lobbying the government to get the rules changed about using the Pier Head Terminal for turnarounds but not quickly enough for Fred. Olsen. "They haven't got their act together, so we're pulling out," said the cruise line's marketing director, Nigel Lingard, at a recent media briefing.

Fred. Olsen Cruises will sail from a host of other British ports in 2012: Dover, Southampton and Boudicca's new winter home of Portsmouth in the south and Greenock, Rosyth and Newcastle in the north.

Very confusing ? But it looks right as 2012 I can't see any big cruise lines departing and disembarking in Liverpool, the lines that are calling in for the day in 2012 are as follows:

Are Refurbished Cruise Ships Returning to Service Too Soon?

Most recent we have had P&O Cruises, The Adonia in the lime light. It had to cancel a travel agent event scheduled for last week. The line declined to say what caused the initial delay, but Adonia's christening ceremony went off without a hitch last Saturday as planned.

Azamara Club Cruises infamously launched its first vessel, Azamara Journey, while extensive work continued on the pool, cabins and public spaces. Vast quantities of garbage still awaited disposal from the pool deck when passengers arrived. At least Journey's toilets worked unlike the Thomson Dream. The 20 plus year old Costa Europa that was refashioned for Thomson Cruises suffered a series of plumbing breakdowns on its first sailing. Viewing on watch dog passengers said the smell was appalling ! All back to normal a while ago and have had my passengers recently returned who very much was satisfied.

But the most notorious incident involved the now-retired Queen Elizabeth II, whose ill-fated 1994 world cruise has become legendary. Though QE2's $45 million dry-dock was not nearly finished when the ship set off on its 108 day voyage, British authorities gave the all clear to sail from Southampton to New York with passengers in tow. Work continued during the transatlantic sailing, and travelers were shocked to find unfinished cabins, exposed wiring, and blocked toilets. When QE2 arrived in New York, US Coast Guard inspectors found fire safety issues, and the ship was forcibly anchored for some 24 hours while fixes were made. It was said that it cost Cunard millions in compensation payouts.

So why do the continue to be too premature when it comes to launching or refurbishing new ships ?

New offer for Single parent's

At long last I here you cry.

NCL launches new single parent initiative

Single parents who travelled with the line previously had to pay a full adult fare for the first child in the stateroom.

Now the child will travel at up to half the adult cruise fare, with the third and fourth children travelling at the existing lower third and fourth berth rates for children.

The line said under the new pricing structure, it would be cheaper for families to book two staterooms rather than a four berth family stateroom, giving them more space and two bathrooms.

NCL said: “Norwegian prides itself on looking after defined groups of guests. Our solo traveller staterooms on Norwegian Epic are examples of this. Now we’re delighted to offer solo parents a way to sail with us that saves them money. We know times have been tough and we want to make a cruise holiday accessible to all families.”

The new pricing will come into effect from now for all sailings on Epic from Barcelona between July and
September 2011.

So will more lines follow ?

Have You Been let down by P&O prices?

With the new edition to the P&O fleet Adonia arriving in her home port of Southampton very to celebrate the new arrival they have some fantastic fares still available for this summer.

As the Adonia is a smaller ship ( just over 700 passengers ) we would expect some voyages to be sold out at this stage but yet again we see massive reduced prices ( not great for many passengers who book in advance ? )

So why do they do it, well of course ships don't want to sail with empty cabins as they can still make money on board. It has only been the last 3 maybe 4 years I have noticed many cruises reduce prices in a big way and the pattern seems to me for the months of May & June. We also see smilier reduced fares for the Caribbean in the months of November & April but now for winter 2011 / 2012 it's all changed. P&O are only having one big boy in the Caribbean so less space will mean no need to reduce the prices?
So Perhaps a similar change is needed to the itinerary's we see in May / June ?

River Cruising

With River Cruising becoming more popular each year, I thought I would take some time and educate myself on the top ten longest Rivers in the world, I didn't even get 50% correct 4 out of the ten.
Nile Amazon, Mississippi, Yangtze.......

So can you cruise down these Rivers ? who with and what are the other six, one must be in Russia ?
So it looks like you can cruise on all four and we can book for you 3 out of the four. Mississippi is a direct sell company for the moment but as river cruising is growing fast I am sure it wont be long until we offer this option.

Nile - Nile cruises surly are the most popular, company's like Longwood , Viking cruises , Discover Egypt and the big on Thomson all do Nile River cruises.The Nile River is the the longest river in the world at 4,132 miles (6,650 kilometres). It rises south of the equator and flows northward through eastern Africa to Khartoum in The Sudan and Lake Nasser, over the Aswan dams, through Egypt to Cairo and then drains into the Mediterranean Sea between Alexandria and Port Said. River cruises between Luxor (site of ancient city of Thebes) and Aswan are a comfortable way of visiting ancient sites like the Valley of the Kings and Philae.

Amazon - Princess cruises have a good programme and once again are very popular.The Amazon carries a greater volume of water than any other river in the world and drains a vast region that starts in the Andes, only 100 miles from the Pacific Ocean, and flows to the Atlantic Ocean. Its banks abound with tropical jungle and wildlife. The Lower and Central sections of the Amazon are treated as Ocean cruises on this site, but the Upper Amazon River is navigable to Riverboats from where it crosses the Colombian border at Leticia into Peru.

Chang Jiang (Yangtze) - My favorite and my my list of places to visit over the next few years, Viking River cruising have the best programme.Flowing a distance of almost 4,000 miles, the mighty Yangtze River is the third longest river in the world and home to more than 300 million people. A cruise down the Yangtze is an excellent way to see a large area of China in a short time and many travellers opt for the voyage between Chongquing and Wuhan that includes the famous and breathtakingly beautiful Three Gorges

Other very popular River Cruises

The Danube is the second longest river in Europe after the Volga. It rises in the Black Forest mountains of western Germany and flows for some 1,770 miles (2,850 kilometres) to its mouth on the Black Sea. It passes through nine countries: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria , Romania, and Ukraine and past great historic cities like Vienna, Budapest and Bucharest. This is the river of Mozart symphonies and Strauss waltzes that is lined with castles and fortresses from its days as the border between great empires.

Culturally and historically one of the great rivers of Europe, the Rhine flows 865 miles (1,390 kilometres) from the Alps of Switzerland north and west through France, Germany and the Netherlands to the North Sea. The Rhine is navigable for River Cruise Boats starting from Basle in Switzerland all the way to the sea near Rotterdam, passing historic towns (like Strasbourg, Worms, Mainz, Koblenz) and modern cities (Cologne, Dusseldorf) as well as fairytale castles.

The Rhone/Saone flows southward through Switzerland and France to the Mediterranean Sea. Passing through the the vineyards of Burgundy and the hills of Provence, it boasts many ancient cities on its banks. River cruises travel north from Lyon up the River Saone to Chalon-sur-Saone and south from Lyon to Avignon and Arles and sometimes into the Camargue on the Mediterranean.

The right choice for you...selecting a cabin

Selecting a cabin can be very confusing. As their are so many different types of cabins not only that you have the location to think of ? So where to start.

When considerings the best cabin for you, the best place to start is your personal budget, then we can work around that. So what should you be considering when selecting a cabin?
Cabin Type
The majority of cabins are Double or Twin and many of these will have a sofa bed or fold down berths for one or two additional passengers. Single cabins are available on the older boats but newer ships rarely provide dedicated cabins for singles. There are four main types of cabin available as twins or singles-
*Inside - no window or natural light. These are usually the lowest priced. However some of the new 100,000 ton ships have interior cabins with windows overlooking an inside promenade area.
*Outside -View with a porthole or picture window. Because most people like natural light, outside cabins are popular and cost more. Note that windows do not normally open and some have views obstructed by lifeboats or other equipment.
*Outside with Balcony - full or half length glass doors lead on to an outside balcony. Most are big enough for two chairs and maybe a small table but not much more. Note that these are mainly a feature of the newer ships on the higher decks.
*Suites - are the most spacious and luxurious accommodation onboard and may come with a butler service. They should have separate living and bedroom areas preferably with a door between and usually have a large balcony but not always.
Location
Location does determine the price you pay - the higher the deck the higher the price. Superior cabins and suites tend to be on the higher decks and standard cabins lower down.If you are a family consider interconnecting cabins or an outside cabin with inside cabin across the corridor.Cabins in the centre of the ship on the lower decks are best if you might suffer from seasickness. Avoid cabins near noisy locations such as the disco and show lounge. Cabins at the stern are more likely to experience engine vibration.

Cabin Availability
Many cruise lines will allow you to select a cabin number of your choice ( when booking early ) however we are seeing more the offer cabin which is a late deal by the cruise line, a promotional offer in order to give them flexibility in selling capacity on the ship.
This works very differently in cruise line to cruise line so always double triple check. Here are a list of some examples.
*Location and cabin number will be allocated by cruise line on the issue of your tickets or even as late as when you check in at the port.
*You are guaranteed to get the specified grade of cabin as a minimum OR higher.
*No changes can be made once the cabin has been confirmed - the cabin allocated is the cabin you will have to have.

Still none the wiser ? If you don't know the cabin number you have booked, make sure you know the worst case scenario, that way you can't go much wrong.

While we are on the subject, if you do select a cabin number their is always a chance that you could be upgraded and a upgrade may not always be a so called better cabin then what you reserved in the first place, so always select the option YES or NO to a upgrade because if you opt for a free upgrade and get it then you are stuck with it !!!1

Crossing The Atlantic Queen Mary 2

Age nothing but a number ?

While the sun was shining Sunday just gone, I was here in the office. Late in the afternoon we had a surprise visit from our P & O rep with gorgeous cup cakes for us all. This was very unusual on a Sunday and the visit was due to them celebrating the first birthday of the Azura. Cakes were well received on the Sunday afternoon, ice-creams would have done, however a very happy birthday to the Azura.

This got me thinking on how old the ships actually get and what is their life expectancy ?

On average the cruise ships have a life span of around 30 years happily sailing along and will more than likely get sold on to other cruise lines for refurbishment then after.

Some ships out there were built pre 1950 way before my time no offence.

The two eldest cruises that spring to mind are the Queen Elizabeth 2 built for Cunard in 1969 and remained with her ever since and soldered on until 2007

Even older was The Fred Olsen Black Prince was completed for 1966 and was taken out of service in 2009 She is now based in Venezuela and operates under the name Ola Emeralda.

Never be put off by how old a ship is. Many cause lines are refurbished over the years of service and undergo major face lifts.

Family Cruising

In the last couple of years we have seen a massive increase in the family market the so called new generation of cruisers. As always the cruise lines follow the pattern and we have more family ship's then ever, but still when it comes to late availability the family birth cabins always sell fast.

Today P&O went on sale for summer 2012 and already selling fast the child friendly ship is the Ventura.

So what to consider when thinking of a family cruise

*As Cruise lines compete aggressively the all want a slice of the pie and do all they can to attract the family market so some have exclusive partnerships. Bear that in mind if your children have a favourite cartoon or film character.

*School holidays are naturally in demand, so booking early is recommend this gets you the best possible price and secures family cabins will be available as limited cabins.

*Children's Clubs are divided into age groups, each with own play areas and adult-free rooms. So if your children are at a smilier age or traveling with other families they may be separated and also may have different dinning times allocated may not be able to eat together. Generally the groups are -Toddlers (age two to four) Juniors (five to seven) Intermediate (eight to 10) Tween (ages 11 to 13) and Teens (ages 14 to 17).

*Always double check Infant ages. They differ from cruise line they are more then welcome but you will be responsible for them the whole time, unless you choose one of the few ships that have a proper nursery (and staff) to look after toddlers, the cruises I am aware of for the ages on 6 - 36 months are Allure and Oasis of the seas ( but still have conditions so you must check your selected voyage) Disney cruise lines on selected ships.

New Ships Rolling Down The River

Launch is fast approaching again, however this year we have not seen as many new ships as previous years.
It feels like the ever growing cruise line fleets are slowing down or are they ?

As you may or may not know I have been on many of the luxury cruises see my other blogs on

Seadream & Regent and today its Seabourn.

I actually forgot how big Seabourn is becoming as they are launching another cruise this June this making this the sixth edition to the ever growing fleet.

The Seabourn Quest is the sister ship to The Sojourn witch I visited for the day last summer read here as you can see she really impressed me. The four others Pride 1988, Legend 1996, Odyssey 2009, Spirit 1989

Seabourn Difference

From the moment you first step aboard, you’ll begin to appreciate the overwhelming appeal of yachting with Seabourn. Is It A Big Issue For You ?

I quit smoking a on the 9th March -National Non- Smoking day
A week to the date - pat on the back for me.
I have attempted a few times before and this time I have gone cold turkey, so apparently over the worse but taking each day at a time.

This time feels different and I can see a future without a cigarette in hand. But as it's still very early days for me, this week the cigarette has been the only thing on my mind hence the subject of my blog.

Smoking at sea

This started to become a big issue for both smokers & non-smokers when the U.K. ban in public places happened in summer 2007 - then all of a sudden everyone had an opinion and rightly so, we are all entitled to them after all.

I only remember being on a couple of cruises, before the big ban. This was the, no more, Ocean Village and the P&O Aurora. Both had designated area's indoors and I always remember being very popular with both smoker and non-smokers.

I visited the Aurora again last year and the changes were not really that noticeable. Now that is probably because now smokers are used to being out doors when smoking and that's just the way it is?

I must admit however as this was the middle of winter the temperature was far from nice so it wasn't the most enjoyable time to enjoy a cigarette shivering, but the summer I would imagine would be better.

I think it boils down to whether you are also a smoker travelling with a smoker. You then will of course spend more time in the designated areas.

As my other half has never smoked the last couple of cruises were more difficult but you manage.

Days at sea were spent on top deck, so to get my fix I just popped to the smoking area alone, very sad. After dinner the other half would have to stroll to top deck and enjoy the cigarette with me ( not that he has ever complained)

As a smoker a balcony is a must but not all cruise lines now allow this for health and safety reasons.

Smoking cabins do still exist. However personally never been a fan of smoking cabins or indeed hotel rooms.They was don't smell good ( and that was my opinion as a smoker ).

What's Next for P & O cruises....

P & O are one of my favourite cruise lines. The typical P & O passenger is a repeat guest year after year and I learn a great deal from my passengers. I feel like I have been on every cruise in the fleet but actually P & O is the one cruise lines I have seen the least and have only actually visited the Aurroa twice.

P & O are forever reinventing themselves and this year alone we have seen many changes. Last year saw the launch of the new edition to the fleet the Adonia this was introduced as a more intimate experience as she only holds 710 passengers. She was not launched as brand sparkling new as she was previously with Princess cruises which entered service in 2001. The Adonia joins the Arcadia for being an exclusively adult only ship and will also be joined by the third Oriana this November after her face lift, the changes are, a new select dining restaurant, additional balcony cabins and even more single cabins on board. And the aft, previously a family space will be a haven for the sunny days at sea. The two sister ships Ventura & Azura, entered service in 2008 & 2010, have settled in very nicely. The Ventura was a big change for P & O as this was aimed for the family market which was a missing link in their fleet. As I earlier stated the line attracts many past passengers and when the Ventura was first launched once again enticed past passengers to book and try this new larger ship holding more than 3,000 passengers. Many were disappointed, not due to the ship its self but, it wasn’t the normal traditional cruise you were used to so the Ventura back then had some bad press. This has resolved its self now and is getting the right passengers on board and we have seen a massive difference in the reviews. The newer Azura didn’t disappoint at all like the Ventura,its sister ship, it is identical but went back to her roots the more traditional style.

2012 isn’t a year for new ships however they are celebrating their 175th anniversary and doing it in style

3rd July 2012 will see all 7 ships in the fleet in Southampton at the same time. The Great Event will celebrate with a sail way champagne party on top deck.

Ventura
Ventura and Azura are the largest ships in the P&O Cruises fleet and on board Ventura you’ll find an incredible choice of facilities. From bars, restaurants, a sports court, spa and theatre, Ventura also has a number of exciting features that are exclusively hers.
Ventura’s signature restaurant is The White Room by none other than Marco Pierre White himself. But there are also 11 other restaurants to tempt you including a tapas bar and restaurant, a stunning Asian restaurant and a choice of Club Dining - the same table at the same time each evening, and Freedom Dining - no fixed seating or dining times.
Ventura is a highly entertaining ship. The music and dance theme continues in The Playhouse theatre with West End style shows, and in Manhattan, Azura’s New York inspired show lounge.

Oriana’s signature features are a stunning atrium with a Tiffany glass ceiling, a panoramic Crow’s Nest bar and Oriana Rhodes, a restaurant by Gary Rhodes situated in the sumptuous surroundings of the Curzon Room. She also has a theatre, cinema, show lounge, nightclub and casino to ensure that entertainment is always within easy reach.
Oriana plays host to our Music Festivals at Sea programme where you can experience opera, operetta, and recitals all of which are presented by well-known names from radio, television and stage. Aurora
Aurora is a mid-sized ship, instantly recognisable thanks to her elegant tiered stern. Aurora is designed for walking or jogging with the opportunity to do just that around her circumference thanks to the broad teak promenade deck. She also welcomes families with children’s clubs and a dedicated family pool. She even has one pool which can be covered by a sky dome.

Arcadia
Exclusively for adults, Arcadia offers a relaxed pace, stylish surroundings and more than a hint of extravagance. Signature features such as her exterior glass-fronted lifts and expansive art collection, featuring no less than 3,000 works of art, create a sophisticated air.
Take a stroll up to Sky Deck and, in addition to great views you’ll find The Orchid Bar and Orchid Restaurant, a Select Dining venue which offers immaculately presented Asian fusion dishes; a treat for the senses. In fact, foodies will be in their element on this ship, for Arcadia also features Arcadian Rhodes, an intimate and upmarket restaurant serving British fare with a modern twist, created by none other than Gary Rhodes.
Arcadia has many a place to happily while away an hour or two; Caffè Vivo, The Piano Bar and The Rising Sun pub to name but a few. There are plenty of ways to keep active too, but the ultimate route to feeling great has to lie with a visit to Arcadia’s wonderful spa which includes a large hydrotherapy pool and a thermal suite complete with fragrant aromatic showers. By evening, you’ll find spellbinding shows in The Palladium theatre, a lively casino, Electra nightclub and The Globe, offering anything from comedy to live music.

Oceana
Oceana is a mid-sized ship with a particularly stunning atrium that creates a real ‘wow’. Her bars, restaurants, shops and lounges have been designed to flow seamlessly through the ship and this makes for a sociable and informal atmosphere. Bars are a feature on Oceana. There is Magnums – a lively Champagne bar, Winners’ - the funky midships bar and the Yacht and Compass – a traditional English pub. Oceana also has a dedicated nightclub.
For dining, Oceana offers a choice when it comes to the main restaurants of both Club (fixed dining times) and Freedom dining (no fixed dining times). She also has several other restaurants to try; a bistro by Marco Pierre White and al fresco dining on deck at the Horizon Grill for great steaks and seafood.
Oceana has broad decks with 4 sparkling pools and 6 whirlpools to enjoy during the day and even has a sports court ingeniously housed in her funnel. The gym and spa are well appointed and within easy reach, as is the golf simulator. Oceana’s welcoming and informal atmosphere makes her particularly popular with families.

Adonia ( Maiden Voyage May )
The smallest of our seven ships, Adonia is designed to offer a delightfully intimate cruising experience. Radiating small ship charm, she carries just 710 passengers. What this means is that in no time at all you’ll experience the cruising camaraderie that comes with being surrounded by friendly, familiar faces. And thanks to her small size, Adonia is a pathfinder ship, exploring ports the larger ships of today are unable to visit - with 75% of her cabins featuring a balcony, the views are second to none.
With wood-style panelling, a grand staircase and traditional artworks, her ambiance and decor are in keeping with the traditions of cruising. Yet being a 21st century ship, (she was built in 2001) there is modernity to her detailing, all of which is beautifully crafted. Her Crow’s Nest offers far reaching views by day and live music by night and Anderson’s bar feels reassuringly British. MSC - Why not ?

MSC Cruise lines don’t always get the best reviews! But My experience on one of the newer ships Poesia was far from bad. I am getting asked more and more find me a good deal and MSCcruises have been coming in with very good prices indeed.

One of the biggest comments I hear is that because it is an Italian cruise line you hear one hundred different languages. This is not the case, announcements are in 5 languages, because of this they keep them to a minimum so seemed less if anything !

Swimming pools are well designed there are 2. If you don't want to fight for loungers, just go to the pools and use the edge.

There are 3 hot-tubs 2 with a great view outside. Men's and women's steam rooms, and also a sauna. All complementary.

Theatre performances were just as good as others and the acrobats are super.

They have at least one opera night....so go for a change of pace.

Evening dining was set dining choice from 5.30 &
8 pm

Food is adequate and a great choice. Comments always are that food is cold, I didn't see this and all staff are very friendly so if this is the case I know it would be no trouble to say so.

-Pizza in the buffet is always hot, fresh and good.

Lunch menu is the same most days. Port side has "grill" and starboard side has the pizza, Sandwiches and cookies.

-room service food is limited to above sandwiches, fruit and salad...nothing hot.

-Cappuccinosare reasonable at the many bars...I think $2/$3.

-In the dining room, there is an option of a house red or white which is very reasonable....$3/glass

The Poesia is very sophisticated and the Italians know how to interior design, us Brits say it is over the top but nothing was too tacky apart from the zebra bar which was a great bar for dancing, if I had of known I certainly wouldn't have worn my zebra shoes ! Not a good look !

Overall MSC are great value for money and have some of the best itineraries around.
Know the ship you are looking at, but don't be put off with some reviews you read.

I would travel with MSC again !

Too Young for Fred Olsen ?

With an average age of 80 years old with Fred Olsen cruises and only being the tender age of thirty-teen. Why I like & highly recommend Fred Olsen overall.

This wasn’t my first time with Fred Olsen. I had been on the Black Watch for a Christmas market shopping break the year before, I liked her a lot and thought as a cruise line she did anything it stated on the tin. Very home from home, very friendly staff and overall a warm welcoming feel. I didn't write a review on the Black Watch, not that it didn’t warrant a good review, it was just because this was one of our many www.cruise.co.uk staff Christmas parties and with the amount of soft drinks flowing a floating butlins would score high with me.
Food and the entertainment was great, the only negative was the cabin it looked very old and we had the L shaped twin beds which would of put me off booking again.
So after the Black watch experience I didn’t think for one minute I would actually pay and cruise on the Fred Olsen line again at my age anyway.
So you know how it is, sometimes a deal comes up that is too good to miss. So this deal appeared and we booked the Braemar in the Caribbean. Now I don’t know if it was because I wasn’t 100% convinced about this cruise? And just went with the attitude beautiful destinations, so if all else fails we will be able to jump of everyday in a new port.
When we got onboard I was over the moon, pleasantly surprised, It really did have that Caribbean feel to it. Music, dancing on top deck and with a cocktail in hand it was the perfect way to start a holiday.
On board there were all age groups, young ( me), and upwards but as I said earlier was I too young?
Then no ( I didn’t get that feeling of a floating nursing home that I had been told so many times )
Our cabin was great we had a Deluxe balcony suite which was comparable to many of the standard suites I had experienced on higher graded cruise lines. We were allocated The Grampian restaurant which is the formal sit down, however we opted to dine in the palms café most evening as we prefer to dine as and when, we find it more relaxing ( buffet style ) The entertainment was great what I call very British, quizzes, bingo, and I enjoyed watching the ball room dancers where 2 gentlemen and one lady host was available to dance with for any singles. So overall for this ship Braemar 10 out of 10 and the biggest plus point is the on board prices no more than our pub prices in fact a little cheaper, hence the 10 out of 10.

So I can’t talk for every voyage on the age group, as I believe the winter sailing do attract a more mature clientele,but no matter what your age I don’t think you can go much wrong with a Fred Olsen cruise.

Balcony cabins is the best way to cruise. Inside, ocean view cabins are indeed adequate, however sometimes it's worth working out much more for a balcony cabin will be on your voyage, especially when you divide the cost per night. Miami Airport "What a Pleasant Suprise"

This was my first time ever visiting the United States, and to be honest over the last couple of years I hadn't heard any good experiences about American airports, so this was the only thing I wasn't looking forward too about my holiday, the Airport and immigration.

I had heard so many bad reports from my customers and Miami sticking out to be one of the worst. I had heard that they were trying to get a better reputation. If this was infact true they have now succeeded.
I was expecting to injure long queues and many questions.
After our 9 hour flight we were straight off and to my surprise there was no queues at all which must of been due to the amount of immigration desks and staff on duty, yes grated a few questions were asked,why is it they always make you feel like you have done something wrong?, but nothing like what I had heard.

Recently it was introduced that a chargeable visa must be obtained before traveling to the United States, no one asked us at the airport before travel if we had one or asked for any evidence of this, as this is electronic. I presume they have all this information from our passport's but I always recommend to clients to print the authorisation page and take it with you.

This one little question has so many more questions to follow.
So I have tried to comprise a list of the most common questions I get and to my knowledge the best advise I can give you.

Yes or no ?

Why would you say no to a complementary upgrade free is free ?

* Well sometimes it might not always work in your favour.

* So you must always be 100 % when asked this question.

Saying Yes = ( NO GOING BACK )

So Be aware if upgraded- what you get is what you get.

Tips on deciding whether you say yes or no.

Inside cabins – ( many inside cabins are situated on higher decks )
You may be upgraded to an ocean view cabin – Great- But always bear in mind this could be lower down and you have no say in the location!

Outside cabins –
You may be upgraded to a balcony cabin – Great – but beware there are many balcony cabins that have obstructed views!

Balcony cabins –
You may be upgraded to a suite – Great- but be aware on location – many suites are situated at the back if the ship, also some suites have different allocation of restaurants.

Booking two cabins close together – if you accept an upgrade –be aware that it is possible that only one out of the two could be upgraded.

So with all that in mind what will you do ?

Many customers accept and many are more than happy, however some have be known not to be satisfied with the upgrade- so always think about it, once accepted and for any reasons you are dissatisfied there is nothing we can do.

My Best Cruise Ever.

It's been a few years since I was on holiday on the sea dream, well half holiday half work anyway, and it was well before we started writing our blogs.
So after recently visiting the biggest

ship in the world, The Allure Of The Seas, it got me

thinking about my time of the Sea Dream. Now this

one is not a cruise we book daily sometimes we can

go months without any enquiry's at all and this is

because it is top of the range a very luxurious cruise/yacht

I was immediately hooked on the way of life, how the other half live, we were welcomed like I have never been welcomed before, now I am no snob of course quite the opposite, however I have sampled many of the luxury cruise lines and this one took top racks for me be a mile. The cabin was the best I had ever seem ( at that time) and cabins were spread over three decks and there were nine categories. The suites as they are called are more than comfortably large with all you can think of or require in your suite, stocked mini bar and DVD player which was used with rental of movies from the library.

The cruise is very much about the itinerary, top service with complimentary drinks throughout and nothing is too much trouble.

Bikes are provided when ashore so you can explore the ports in a very unique way. Which we did do and are still alive to tell the story. Me and Tony below looking the part this was before and not after.

The other great selling point was the free water

sports jet skis, water skiing ( which I cannot do)

And banana boat. All great fun and nearly all on board were involved great fun.

The provide free water sports weather permitting,

but we were away in middle of November and the water was cold the didn't have them out only 1 in four and did advise us that in the summer and Caribbean they were generally out every day.

*Me driving the jet-ski Tony can be such a girl at times.( I hope he is too busy to read this)

So compared to most cruise lines entertainment isn't your usual cabaret shows they have a very small casino and it is basically singing around the piano Karaoke style, it really was making your own entertainment but with great people good wine you can't go wrong

Other nightly entertainment was sleeping under the stars truly memorable. They provide warm duvet and are walking around with hot chocolate.

So overall a cruise of a life time, that can't be beaten in my eyes. And would recommend it to all customers. After all whom doesn't love really wonderful food , the best wine, (and I am no wine critic) and perfect service. Luxury all the way with great people who make a trip of a life time.

Fifth terminal for Southampton

Today is the day when we will see six cruise ships in Southampton port together.

Cunard's Queen Elizabeth & Queen Victoria - The newest of the two sister ships Queen Elizabeth is starting her Maiden World Cruise voyage and Queen Victoria is heading to Los Angeles where she is doing voyages around North America & Hawaii before heading back to Southampton for the 14th April for the summer months.

P & O - Arcadia is also starting her 82 night world voyage.

Fred Olsen Balmoral ( around the world ) & Black Watch ( around South America) also are in port to begin their world voyages.

Also joining the 5 big boys will be Saga Cruises' Saga Ruby.

So with six in port today the four port terminals will see up to 20,000 passengers arriving in or departing from the city.

2014 is the target for the new fifth terminal to be ready.And with the cruise industry ever expanding this will be great for all our existing and new to cruise passengers.

My New Year Challenge

So just like that Christmas is over and January is here again,and every one is talking about there new years resolution. Mine however is some what different this year,as there is a little wager in it.

So after a memorable 2010 getting married, the build up, the 100 hen do's and turning thirty. The unwanted excess pounds have piled on.

My biggest problem is red wine and with the year I have had I can't remember a drink free evening for a long long time.
At this time of year we read loads of diet plan's,do's and don'ts and the other day I read that everyone should have at least 2 alcohol days a week.PANIC.

Now this shouldn't be a massive problem but like I said I have got myself into quite a habit.

So to loose the post wedding weight , I am on a diet and what better way to start is to give up the drink, no one wants wasted calories in their diet especially when a glass of wine could be replaced with a Kit Kat.

However my newly supportive husband ,soon to be ex , says there is NO WAY I can do it ?

So he has incentivize me - If I do not touch a drop for the whole month of January he will give me £500

So day 2 of my challenge and I am talking about it already, not a good start. So my plan is to work though it. I will be here in the office every day in January not only as its one of our busiest times but to take my mind of my favorite down time a glass of red.

Wish me luck-I will let you all know on the 1st February if I have succeeded if so i will celebrate with a good old drink and will be £500 richer.

(If not tony is booking me in to rehab.)

Allure Of The Seas

I was one of the first to see the newest Royal Caribbean ship Allure Of The Seas and was hooked straight away.
Compared to others this is quite the opposite as it has everything. As the ship is a massive 220,000 tons and holds nearly six thousand passengers, I have plenty to report on this trip of a life time.

My holiday was based around this visit to see the Allure of the seas for 3 nights. As based in Florida,it was too far for me to travel without adding an extra few nights. So we arranged to stay in Miami a few nights earlier.We did get a great fare on a down town hotel in Miami the intercontinental and was good value for money and a good location.
Knowing how cheep you can pick up the 3 nights cruises in Miami we decided to take full advantage of a 3 day cruise around the Bahamas. So being an older ship then the new Allure I didn't have very high expectations at all and really was just hoping for clean,friendly service with the good ports of call to go ashore. I was so surprised and couldn't believe how little they cost. Value for money doesn't really cut it. My review will follow on the Majesty of the seas.

But first I am starting with my highlight of The Allure ( one of many )

My most favorite part was one of the shows, now personally theatre shows don't do it for me and generally give them a miss on voyages. I tend to enjoy comedy venues,however as this one was some what different and unique we headed down to the Aqua Theater to see a small glimpse of the show which would be one of many of the shows on this truly fabulous ship.

As she only recently arrived in Fort Lauerdale the show team of professionals hadn't had much time to practice their full show and we were allured with what they called a short preview show. This lasted around 20 minutes and I can really say that this was the best show I had ever seen and if their is more then what we saw that's just an added bonus as I did not want it to end, before the standing ovation,the show comprised of acrobats,divers and trampolinist's.You just didn't no whom to look at truly mesmerising.

Good Or Bad News for P&O passengers ?

We see many fantastic early booking offers with P & O Caribbean cruises, and when they still have last minute availability they sometimes reduce the prices even more.

This is because that for the ships based in Barbados in the winter months they use charter flights-this means that all passengers on the flight will be also joining your cruise,so because all the seats have been brought in bulk they might as well sell the last few seats at a reduced price.

For many years now we are used to checking in on-line 24 hours before,however P & O never offered this service,allocation of seats were offered at check in on the day.

Customers have been asking for a service like this for quite some time, as they worry what would happen if they were not seated together and many experienced clients like to say weather or not they would like an isle seat or a window seat.

So over the years I have been happy to say that they do not provide this option, and not once have I personally heard a report that my passengers in couples have been separated.

But today I was informed not by P & O but by one of my clients that they are now offering a pre bookable service on their flights

Great news I hear you say..................................
................................................................well this new service comes at a cost,like everything I suppose, but many of the package holidays pre bookable service costs on advantage £14 per person , I remember when this service was launched over 10 years ago even this had grumbles now it seems we are used to this additional cost and expect to pay it or avoid it all together.

So what are P & O charging for this service £25 per person now I personally don't think this is justifiable when you have already paid for your place within the holiday cost,however it is a service customers have been asking for...

Holiday Time

I am now away from my desk until Monday the 29th November.

This evening we are traveling to Heathrow and staying in the easy hotel. Now we choose this hotel as it was so cheap only £30 for the room. The avenge over night stay at airport is around the £90 per room mark. So for £30 we certainly can not grumble, however what it will be like is another matter ? I will let you know.

After hopefully a good night sleep,Wednesday we are flying to Miami for a two night stay, it was only going to be one however I had a great idea to surprise my other half and visit the American Airlines Arena to watch a basketball game Miami Heat vs. Phoenix Suns
but I booked the wrong date a day to early, I am only human after all, but hey ho, a little admin to change the flight and we get an extra nights holiday. I always look on the bright side.

After this we are on the Majesty of the seas for 3 nights round Bahamas ( cant wait ) I am then on the Allure of the Seas for the launch of the new ship.

Back to cold Heathrow on the Friday 26th but only down in the dumps for an hour or so as going straight down to Southampton to meet the Aurora for our 2 night annual Christmas cruise.co.uk party.

Lucky or what. I will report back on the 30th November

Very Excited To Be Going On The Allure of the Seas

I was very pleased to see images over the weekend that the newest cruise ship to Royal Caribbeans fleet is on its way to Miami on the transatlantic voyage and safely squeezed under the Storebaelt Bridge in Denmark.

Allure was designed with the ability to lower its funnels by one metre to allow the ship to pass under the bridge on its way to its new home, Fort Lauderdale in Florida. It is heading there via the North Sea, Dover and English Channel after leaving the shipyard in Turku, Finland on 29th October.

I will be one of the first to see the new cruise on the 23rd of this month,staying on her for 3 nights,not sailing anywhere,but will have the chance to experience the ship hopefully in full? As the ship has the capacity to hold 5402 passengers at a massive 220,000 tons,I am not convinced I will see everything in 3 days.

As it's a long way to fly to Miami just to see her for 3 nights,we have decided to travel out early and take advantage of the great cruise deals you can get departing from Miami. We have decided on the Majesty Of the seas 3 night voyage around the Bahamas.One of Royal Caribbeans oldest ships which entered service in 1992, thankfully refurbished in 2007 in comparison she holds up to 2,744 passengers and is 74,000 tons.

So watch this space for my reviews, I will be expecting allot from the Allure of the seas, I am just glad I will be on the Majesty first.

Thomson Dream.What are they thinking?

You may have seen it on watch dog, only a few weeks ago the Thomson Dream was featured with far from a glowing report. One of the biggest mistakes they made was to advertise, the new to Thomson fleet, as a band new ship, this I'm sure was not intentional of course but was advertised in a very confessing way.

Now I personally have always been a big fan in Thomson cruises and with Ocean Village out of the way,I highly recommend them,not only for first time cruisers " Cruises for the non cruiser" but I also find many other cruise line passengers taking a second yearly cruise with Thomson as the do have some very unique itineraries,and generally the price is right for a second cruise.

So with my December holiday not confirmed yet,a thought that sprung to mind was I wonder how cheap they are selling the Thomson dream?

Now she is relocating from Southampton to the Caribbean on the 8th December, so not doing what I want at that time of year. But still looking at the prices they do still seem very high considering?

So I compared a January cruise with P & O. Thomson were coming in nearly £400 per person more then P & O for a Caribbean Cruise.

So what are they doing, surely with such bad publicity they would want and need to get as many passengers on board to start getting some good reviews and in my opinion value for money would be the best way to start.

The Thomson dream is unique to many of the other standard Caribbean cruises as it's one of a very limited amount of cruises that visit Cuba, mainly due to the fact that the American Cruise lines can not visit.

However comparing many other cruises I think that Thomson may have to look at their prices to attract more customers on board ?

Thomson dream formally know as Costa Europa is based in the Caribbean this winter and back doing various Mediterranean voyages next summer.

I like to take the time to call as many of my clients as possible just before they depart on their voyage.

And last week in particular was very interesting to me as the Queen Elizabeth Maiden voyage was upon us.
My customers were not the only ones excited as I myself was invited to attend an overnight stay on her and I was one of the first to see the new ship.

Many of my clients I was talking to are what I call "die hard " Cunard passenger's and were extremely looking forward it after waiting for so very long,as was I.

This was my very first Cunard visit, so Saturday the 9th me and many other lucky colleagues headed to Southampton. I was delighted to discover on check in that for the evening I would be spending it in a Princess Grill suite,double excited.

Now I am not sure weather it was all the hype of her and the Princess and Queens Grill status or the fact I have just been spoilt over the years with six star luxury cruise lines but I was a little disappointed.
The Princess Grill cabin 5091 was fine,a great size,all you needed,but compared to the standard balcony cabins I saw,apart from the size of the cabin there was nothing I would say which would be worth the extra money? Apart from of course your dinning arrangements.
Now even though I had been given a princess grill we still was allocated the Britannia Restaurant,
I was so impressed with the lay out and the service was second to none,very white glove. It had a very "Titanic" feel to it which is exactly what I had imaged,this decor and atmosphere carried on throughout the whole cruise,a very memorial cruise ship.

I know my "Die hard" customers will not be disappointed at all and look forward to talking to all of you on your return.

Save Money ! Is it Worth the Risk ?

With the latest disruption recently over The Spanish air strike last week. I ask myself is it worth saving money by not taking the flights with the cruise operator and saving money by doing you own thing?

Many cruise lines now are based in Europe in the summer months and with so many offers and availability on the LOW COST airlines, we always wonder if it is in our best interest to De-package your holiday and make your own arrangements.

I was always a big believer in this with the likes of Royal Caribbean based in Europe ,Just looking at next summer the Adventure of the seas is in Malaga - Costa Del Sol,and just pulling one date out, in the height of the summer season 13th August , Royal charge £360 pp for the flight and looking into booking yourself it comes in under £200 pp so that's a massive saving individually and a family it's a good amount of your holiday spending money.

But what is the risk of doing the above - Well it's down to you,it's your own responsibility to get to the ship on time, if you have any delays and miss the boat,then that's that,you would have lost the cruise value.
I would always recommend in this instance that you either think of traveling the day before,knowing that you have plenty of time to get their.

Always check your insurance policy many do offer adequate cover,but double triple check. As i heard many horror sorties when it came to the Volcanic Ash earlier this year.

Over Priced Single Supplements

I can't really say if I agree with single supplements or not , looking it from the agents point of view I believe that well if a cabin can sleep 2 passengers and only one single passenger is in that cabin , then yes if the cruise line can take more money from 2 passengers then why not ! But I also see it from my clients point of view , that it is just to much money ,Why should I pay more?

I don't think for one minute that things will change regarding the rates of single supplements you pay. However cruising is great for single travellers. It offers a safe and secure environment in which to meet people and make friends.

There are lots of organised activities and social events to keep you busy night and day if you wish. Also there are usually quiet places where you can seek tranquillity. Many ships organise singles cocktail parties and will put singles on the same dining tables where requested.

So I would always recommend that it is good what ever rate of supplement you pay , but to avoid paying double the price as a single traveler , who is best ?

Single cabins - The cruise has a selected amount of single cabins , these cabins will error no single supplement. Single cabins do sell fast usually on the day they go on sale for popular voyage's

Cabin share - Less and less cruise lines offer this service , this is a way where you have a twin cabin and share with some-one on the same voyage meaning you pay no supplements , the other passenger will be the same sex, and you will meet on board.

Hosts -   Hosts on board are their to dance with on evening and do activities throughout the day , this is a good point for single travelers whom enjoy to dance, guaranteeing a partner , however you do need to share your female or male host.

Below 50% This gives a good indication of value for money , some cruise lines charge 75% - 100% single supplements . Always ask at the time.

When I first worked in travel , there was a very popular programme named young at heart, where ( retired ) couples and single would hibernate in the winter months and seek some winter sunshine in the well established holiday resorts such as Benidorm , back then I remember my customers saying if you could holiday for less than £50 per day it would cost them less to be away from home then it was staying at home.?

Things have moved on and of course the Spanish resorts are still very popular in the winter and having a look at whats around the resort of Benidorm staying in the winter pricing are achievable for less then £30 per day !

So can you achieve this kind of value for money by cruising ?

I have found a 3 week voyage for less than £60 per day , so is this still affordable ? still cost affective comparing with living at home? Never less I believe this to be extremely good value for money and there are a few around.

This is the voyage i found to escape the winter pre Christmas for £59 per person per night !

So in money value it will cost £2997 £53 more each per day more to cruise so what do you get for your money ,

1. Well first of all it's Majorca not there is anything wrong with this however it is a well established holiday resort , which will be cheaper than other island's around the Mediterranean

2.All your food will be included on the cruise compared to half board , breakfast and evening meal in the hotel. And not forgetting the food is in it's own league altogether!

3.Seeing more doing more , not only do you get 9 different ports of call , places to see the entertainment on board the ship is all included , ice-skating rink ,fitness centre, Rock climbing wall, golf simulator , mini golf ,surf flowrider. - that will save some extra spending money keeping the children entertained on your land holiday.

Watched this space for more coming soon. On the whole Royal Caribbean is more expensive than other cruise line , but as we all know you pay for what you get.

Queen Elizabeth Countdown

It has been confirmed that the Queen her self will be naming the new Queen Elizabeth

The ceremony will take place at Southampton on October 11th with the vessel setting sail on its maiden voyage the following day.

I am heading down to Southampton on Saturday 9th October overnight to experience it for myself

Cruise Ship To The Rescue

Last week Disney Cruise Line's Disney Magic rescued 18 Algerians stranded in a boat with no power. According to a statement from the cruise line, the people were taken onboard the ship and given meals and cabins.

The ship was sailing from Gibraltar to Barcelona, when "the shipboard team heard crewmembers from two other vessels talking on the radio about sighting a boat and then losing a visual of it," the statement says. Disney Magic joined the search and eventually spotted the powerless boat and brought the sailors onboard. Authorities in Barcelona will take over when the ship docks in the Spanish city and the rescued persons disembark.

Of course you would want to rescue anyone standard ,or who needed help , but a little part of me wonders in they are asking for trouble ?

While rescues at sea don't happen daily , they are not all that uncommon. in 2009, Carnival Cruise Lines' Carnival Glory made a three hour detour to rescue nine Cuban refugees, and in 2008, P & O Cruises' Ventura came to the aid of an injured yachtsman in the Mediterranean after intercepting his mayday call, and Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Dawn rescued two sailors in one day.
Holland America's Westerdam in May 2007 when the ship rescued eight Algerians from a small boat in the middle of the Mediterranean. Reports said passengers were at dinner when the ship made an abrupt turn to one side, and the captain announced that they had changed course because the bridge staff had spotted a small boat with people waving their life jackets.
The ship sent out a small rescue boat to bring the men food and water, and ultimately brought them onboard, treated them for dehydration and exhaustion in the ship's infirmary, and debarked them at the next port of call in Tunisia.

Not sure how safe I would feel welcoming a few extras on board on one of my voyages ?

Cruise prices could rise under new emission rules

New environmental regulations designed to reduce harmful emissions from ships could significantly raise the cost of cruising.

The new rulings, which have been approved by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), will force cruise lines to cut the level of sulphur in their fuel when they are within 200 miles of shore – from the up to 4.5 per cent currently permitted to 1 per cent in 2012 and to 0.1 per cent in 2015. The low-sulphur zones, known as Emission Control Areas, came into force in the Baltic and North Sea this month. By 2012 they will be introduced in North America, where the impact on cruising is expected to be greatest.

It has been estimated that using low-sulphur fuels could cost some vessels an extra £10,000 a day. Cruise ships travelling along the east and west coasts of the United States would normally be within the controlled zones for the duration of their sailings.

Most cruise ships have the capability to store two or more fuels. However, to meet the requirements set for 2015, some vessels may need to be modified to add storage capacity.

A spokesman for Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has said the new regulations could put the line off running cruises in North America.

The US Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the improved air quality resulting from the new regulations could save as many as 14,000 lives a year.

“All the shipping industry has to pay a price to protect human health and the marine environment,” said a spokeswoman for the IMO. “Very often such regulations will result in extra costs and these will be passed on to passengers. But what proportion remains to be seen.”

The Passenger Shipping Association, which represents cruise and ferry operators in the UK, says the regulations will not slow down the growth of cruising – the number of British cruisers annually has doubled since the year 2000 to 1.65 million.

“Our members will be considering the financial implications – it will be down to the individual if they choose to pass on those costs,” said a spokeswoman. She declined to put a figure on what the likely price increase for passengers would be.

She added that although all its members support measures to protect the marine environment in which they operate, many had reservations about the environmental implications of what happens to the sulphur taken out of fuel.

The spokeswoman for the IMO said that alternatives to using low-sulphur fuel included equipping vessels with exhaust gas scrubbers which would absorb and remove sulphur from the exhaust.

The Baltic Ports Organization has said the implementation of the new fuel regulations would put Baltic ports and shipping lines “in a disadvantageous position”.

Madeira lights up the sky on New Year's Eve !!!

Many cruise lines on their Christmas voyages will dock in Madeira on 31st December and this is why.

Christmas and the end of the year celebrations are deeply rooted in the traditions of the people of Madeira and a varied programme of cultural, folk and artistic events can be enjoyed in Funchal’s centre.

Another river cruise line announces an expansion in Europe

Add tour operator Tauck to the list of companies planning a big expansion in European river cruises for 2011 as demand continues to grow.

Tauck announced Tuesday it would roll out a new riverboat in Europe in 2011 -- its fourth -- and also add new itineraries on the Rhone river, increasing its river cruise departures by over 30%.

"European river cruising continues to be among the fastest-growing segments of our business, and we're boosting capacity and expanding our offerings to better serve our guests

Tauck's move comes just a month after industry leader Viking River Cruises announced plans for a massive three-year, $250 million expansion that included the construction of eight new river boats and the refurbishment of two more. The expansion will increase Viking's capacity by more than 40% and leave the line with 26 riverboats in all.

Another fast-growing river line, Avalon Waterways, also recently announced plans for a new vessel that that it says will revolutionize the industry. Billed as the industry's first "suite ship," the 166-passenger Avalon Panorama will be an almost all-suite river boat with cabins that are 15% to 30% larger than the industry norm and boast floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows.

The new Rhone River itineraries announced Tuesday by Tauck include a 10-day "French Waterways & Vineyards" option that includes a two-night stay in Paris (rates start at $4,490 per person, based on double occupancy). Also new on the Rhone River is a 14-day "French Escapade: Monte-Carlo to Paris" itinerary that starts at $5,990 per person).

Should Cruise Ships Offer Karaoke ?

I for one say YES I absolutely think it is a great atmosphere , I really enjoy people watching here I prefer the tone deaf ( the X Factor wannabees ), unlike myself of course , however even the good singers crack me up!

Now I know Its not everyone's cup of tea, so of course it can be avoided !
But I have been on many cruises and enjoyed many great evening with a sing along. The idea of Karaoke people think Thomson and Island cruises which were recently named in our survey the Primark of cruises?

However the six star cruises Regent & Seadream I have been on are great lovers of the singing around the old piano and of course this is a little more suttle however I was handed a microphone and I can assure you it wasnt pretty however a great laugh and all enjoyed!

So I was really surprised to hear that the new Norwegian Cruise Line's EPIC whom staff here at cruise.co visited on the launch ...said to have everything and anything from Ice bars to rock climbing walls 20 eateries , 20 bars and many showrooms and three of the biggest water slides at sea.
Did decide not to have a Karaoke bar !

A mainstay of the 10 other Norwegian ships sailing from the Caribbean to Europe, karaoke won't have a big presence , if any , on the line's new, 4,100-passenger flagship, say Norwegian staffers (unlike on the line's Jewel Class ships, where passengers' karaoke almost nightly from a prominently-placed lounge).
Karaoke is, they hint, no longer the hot commodity it used to be.

River Cruising - Getting more popular !

I am getting more interest from my past passengers about something different, my passengers have been travelling for many years with the same cruise lines , however the itineraries can be a little repetitive for them. In the nicest possible way many of my clients know exactly what and which cruise lines they prefer , it’s just the same old places which have taken the edge out of the cruise, like I say It's one of the reasons I do enjoy cruising is because you wake up in a different port most morning, and my passengers are saying "been their done that a thousand times" ......so what next !

I offered a client a River Cruise , however being new to River Cruising what do I actually know ?

Well not enough to talk and talk about it like I would of course Canard, P & O, Fred Olsen and all the others I have been luckily enough to been on -

My Visit on the Seabourn Sojourn

I was very excited to be invited to see and dine on the band new Seabourn Sojourn last Saturday and even though over a week has passed I can still remember the lunch and can taste it as if it was today.

Our day was meant to start at 6am meeting up at our offices , however for the first time I can ever remember I over slept and was awoken by a telephone call from my colleague , I couldn't believe it, I was late and didn't see how I would get ready in time, my 3 other colleagues in the luxury team shouted down the phone get ready we will come and get you. While applying my make-up in the car, yes I know I am no natural beauty, my colleague Lisa says "Grace you have got your passport haven't you?" well of course not in the rush I totally forgot. Once again the driver turned back to my house to get my passport; thankfully they were all laughing with me. If I had made it all the way to Canary Wharf to join her as she was tendered on the Thames (very nice) I would have been waiting in the car for the day very jealous indeed, especially now I know what I would have missed.

Let's hope I am more organised on my wedding day!

After a quick refreshment a well overdue coffee, we arrived my first impressions were how elegant and how much space there was.

The tour started with the main restaurant quite simply named " he Restaurant"- a fine-dining and open-seating Gourmet experience, with the capacity to seat all guests.

Open Kitchen style, so guests can look on as they prepare each meal to order.

Up some dizzying stairs to "Restaurant 2" - an Avant-garde dining experience serving carefully selected wine and food pairings in flights of small plates.

Crossing the pool deck you can see the "Patio Grill" - which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner (weather permitting).

Now being escorted through six different lounges and bars which invite the Guests to gather throughout the day and evening to share laughter, drinks and tales of the days adventures. The open bar policy ensures there are no slips or bills to sign. And, of course, gratuities will be neither required nor expected.

We were then escorted around some very superb suites. I can safely say that guests will not be disappointed with comfortable living areas and either queen or twin beds. All Suites have walk in closets, interactive flat screen TVs and a makeup vanity with a comfortably sized granite bathroom with separate bath and shower. The personal bar is stocked with the guests preference.

Passing through the spa, one of the highlights is the Spa Villa, which is available for guests to book at an additional cost and features a canopied treatment area complete with bathtub (for two), a private balcony for sunbathing, a full living room area, a double daybed and even a dining area where snacks can be enjoyed.

Before lunch we had time to relax with a glass or 5 of champagne and numerous varieties of canapés, served by the butlers.

Off to lunch where we were served a very delectable 6 -course lunch designed by Celebrity chef Charlie Palmer.

So after a crazy blonde morning, I am so glad I had the chance to experience this ship, as you may have read previously I have sailed on her before and the new yacht did not disappoint. All I need to do is save my pennies for my annual holiday or nudge nudge wink wink at my manager to be give me another trip or at least another ship visit.

Guide to tipping on your cruise

Watch this space I will be visiting the new Seabourn Sojourn this Saturday so for anyone who are interested keep your eyes open for my report.

I for one am looking forward to this new cruise , and I am sure I will not be disappointed, I have travelled once before with Yachts Of Seabourn aboard the Legend. This was an out of this world experience overall , Yes you pay more than other lines,which i think puts people off in actually looking into further what exactly you are getting for your money.

*All suites are equipped with a fridge ,flat screen T.V. and DVD player

With that in mind here is an over view of the seabourn Sojourn until my awaited personal review.

This will be the 5th yacht from Seabourn and the second of three 450-guest vessels being added to Seabourn's fleet of intimate yachts. The line has won numerous awards and consistent acclaim for highly personalized service , all-suite accommodations , superb cuisine and exceptional delivery of the most desirable destinations worldwide.

Like its sister ship, Seabourn Odyssey, Sojourn will accommodate guests exclusively in spacious suites, 225 in total, 90 % of which have private verandas. Top of the range suites include Wintergarden Suites with private solarium and veranda, and Signature Suites with sweeping verandas and unrivalled views facing forward. All suites will feature separate living areas and bedrooms, writing desks with personalized stationery, iPod and MP3 connections and spacious granite bathrooms with separate bath and shower and twin sinks.

Queen Elizabeth - Is It all about First impressions ?

We are all waiting for Cunards new liner Queen Elizabeth the sister to Queen Victoria.
If you've ever seen the Grand Lobby aboard Queen Victoria, you know that it's the first part of the ship passengers normally see when they board, and your eye is drawn directly to the main staircase and the huge artwork at the landing.
So when designing Queen Elizabeth, Cunard knew they wanted something special there, since it sets the tone for vessel and the entire voyage. They wanted something that said, "Britain," and something that said, "Cunard" !!

David Linley must be a brave man. Not only has he taken on the task of creating a huge decorative panel for the Grand Lobby of Cunard's newest ship, Queen Elizabeth,but he agreed to show off the design for the first time at a reception in his London furniture showroom.

Never heard of David Linley ?

David Linley founded his company David Linley & Co in 1985. It has now become known simply as LINLEY. The first collection he launched commercially was unveiled in 1985 he then went on to open retail premises in London and some 23 years later the LINLEY brand is going strong, and David Linley remains its Chairman.

David’s creative ability was nurtured by his parents from an early age as they encouraged his passion for making things. His talented father, the eminent photographer Lord Snowdon was particularly influential having himself trained as an architect and designed amongst other things the Aviary at London Zoo. David attended an alternative school which emphasises arts and crafts – where he developed an avid interest in wood-work !

The panel, made with decorative woods including ebony, walnut, sycamore, burr ash, and bird's eye maple, will span two-and-a-half decks of the ship, looking down on sweeping central staircase, and will be among the first things passengers see when they embark on the ship.

Cunard President and managing director Peter Shanks "We needed to fill that space with a decorative screen which would not just be dramatic, but would also reflect our emphasis on traditional and sumptuous materials.No-one is better qualified for this detailed and monumental work than David Linley, whose creative ability and mastery of wood is renowned."

When complete, the panel will be shipped to Monfalcone in Italy, where Queen Elizabeth is nearing completion. The 92,000-ton ship, which will carry more than 2,000 passengers, will embark on her maiden voyage from Southampton on 12th October 2010.

No official announcement has been made on who will officially name the new ship, but it is likely that the Queen, who launched the QE2 in 1967, will perform the task.

News Of New Carnival Ship - What I Think of Carnival !

Another big ship coming our way from Carnival cruise lines , still no where near the size of the 222,900 ton Oasis of the Seas Royal Caribbean Line which can hold over an amazing six thousand passengers , however still a great size.

The 130,000-ton cruise ship scheduled to enter service in spring 2012.
The new ship will be the third in the line’s Dream class.
Carnival Dream, entered service in 2009 and a sister ship, Carnival Magic, is currently under construction and is scheduled to debut in Europe in May 2011.

The new addition Carnival Breeze will offer many of the popular innovations featured on Carnival Dream as well as some exciting and unique new elements created just for this vessel that will be detailed at a later date, along with homeport and itinerary information.

Signature Dream-class elements featured on Carnival Breeze will include expansive facilities for children and teens, a 23,750-square-foot Cloud 9 Spa and The Lanai, an outdoor promenade featuring whirlpools that extend over the ship’s sides.

Other features will include a WaterWorks aqua park with a 300-foot-long corkscrew water slide, a stunning indoor/outdoor café and live entertainment venue called Ocean Plaza and a wide range of staterooms including deluxe ocean views with two bathrooms, some of which feature five berths great appeal for families.

Carnival Breeze will be the 24th vessel in Carnival Cruise Lines’ fleet, which operates 3day - 15 day voyages to The Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, Panama Canal, Canada, New England, Bermuda and Europe.

My holiday experience aboard a Carnival cruise Carnival Splendor.....

I had always recognised that the Carnival cruises are not for everyone , and wasnt sure what to expect myself , however i was blown anyway buy the size and space and colourful decor ( pinks )

Most of the public rooms were situated on one deck with the above decks being the 2 main dining rooms.
The public rooms included a royal flush casino , which was one of the grandest i'd seen, and a
Coffee shop offering the most amazing selection of cakes. ( of course if you had any room )

Children would be well taken care of with their own camp childrens club and childrens pool , carnival are very well known for childrens facilities and their extensive childrens programm. and i didnt see any reason to doubt this.

Even being a large line i thought that getting on and off would be a pain, many queues , however we didnt experience any major delays in fact better than some smaller lines.

Cabins were fine all you needed toiletries provided , bright, kept clean and plenty of space.

Two main dining rooms Black Pearl and the Gold Pearl , both were 2 decks high offering fixed times 6pm early or 9.30pm late. Alterative dining casual The Lido Restaurant was self service, offering different themes most evenings. There was 1 reservation only restaurant at an extra charge, looked very busy so would pre book early on.

Entertainment was very Las Vegas like shows , and other venues offered live music and cabaret acts.

Overall the carinival line is a 3 star cruise - i however would without a doubt rate the Carnival Splendor 4 star, sure most would agree ?

Fuel Supplements Are Back ! Will all cruise lines now follow ?

I have just returned back from my one weeks holiday , Too find two more cruise lines have added a fuel supplement to their holidays a week after Fred. Olsen announced that it would apply the add-on.

This is for new bookings only , so if you have already booked then you should be safe!
However all new booking now you will see the cost of the fuel supplement in your cruise cost !

Fred Olsen which will charge a £3 per night fuel supplement on new bookings from this week - said the hike was due to the increased price of Brent crude oil.

Fred Olsen have said that if the cost of crude oil fell back to £45 per barrel or below, within the month prior to date of departure , customers would receive a refund in the form of onboard spending credit.!!

Now P & O Cruises and Cunard cruise lines - part of the Carnival group - are doing the same.

Both the above lines have introduced a fuel supplement of £2.50 per person, per day, up to a maximum of £100 per person for any holidays booked from now for departures from 1st November this year.

Good news for our clients who booked early on launch for 2011 cruises.

So how do you feel about the fuel supplement ?
Are you happy to see the cost of the fuel in your breakdown of cost or at least understand why it is their ?
Or do you think it should be included in the cruise cost and cruise lines should take any increases into account ?

Norovirus ! Just an upset stomach ?

We are hearing about this more and more...........Norovirus !

Now I have picked up many so called stomach bugs on my holidays in the past, I always seem to put it down to over indulgence ( too much of everything ) on my cruise holidays mixed in with the old sea legs.

But am I being NAIVE ?

No one wants to become ill on a holiday / cruise after all ! When we have spent all our hard earned money.

So how to avoid it !

Wash hands as often as possible !

If you have a norovirus infection, avoid direct contact with others, until at least 48 hours after your symptoms have gone. This is because you may still be contagious, even though you no longer have sickness or diarrhoea.

There is no specific treatment for a norovirus infection and you will usually not need to visit a doctor.

* take paracetamol to relieve symptoms of any fever

*drink plenty of water to replace the fluids lost through diarrhoea and vomiting, to prevent dehydration.

- Drinking plenty of fluids is particularly important for young children and the elderly, who are more prone to dehydration.

- Try to eat a light diet of foods that are easy to digest, such as soup, rice, pasta and bread. Babies should be given their normal feed.

- Washing your hands regularly and staying in your cabin until you are clear of symptoms for 48 hours reduces the risk of you passing the virus onto others.

Volcanic Ash ! A Winners Story !

The first ever UK airspace closure came on Thursday15th April when air safety officials announced a total ban on air traffic movements inside the United Kingdom, fears of volcanic ash causing significant safety risks to aircrafts.

The National Air Traffic Services (NATS), who control air traffic activities within the United Kingdom, repeatedly extended the ban , Wednesday 21st April started to see some movement, and now everything is back to normal flights departing as usual , but many are still trying to make their way back home as cancelled flights needed to be rebooked ect.

So how did this affect you ? - I have had many of my clients affected good and bad experiences ,as an agent I have been here to help as much as possible and to give the best possible advise and the latest information at the time. !

so its always good to hear a good report ..................

A winners story !

I had one of my clients who flew out to Barbados on the 2nd April 2010 for their first ever cruise aboard the Sea Princess , their voyage ended on the 17th April where they were due to fly back to Manchester.

The news became a shock to them wondering when they would be getting home , and would Princess cruises help they with accommodation in Barbados.?

As the Sea Princess using charters flights because the flight didnt depart the U.K. with the passengers for the next voyage , my extremely lucky and delighted clients were able to stay aboard the cruise while being feed and watered until their return flight home,

They have now arrived home yesterday morning safe and sound , after what they class as an extended 6 nights free holiday.

My passengers have not been put off booking again however a lot of questions were indeed needed to be asked , a lot of WHAT IFS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eye Eye Captain ! A Woman ?

Yesterday saw the very first women captain with P&O cruises set sail aboard the Artemis the 1200 passenger ship.

Although in my opinion a male officer is indeed how can i put it more easy on the eye. There is no reason a women is less capable of the day to day running of the cruise ship , apart from wearing many hats.
They are responsible for the ship's speed and position, must also keep a daily log of the ship's location, cargo and passengers.
A cruise ship captain is also a people person. Has the responsibility of holding meetings, attending dinners with guests and having his picture taken with guests.
A captain is the most important member of the cruise staff and the person whom everyone looks to when there is a problem.
The captain must know the navigational information and which ports the ship will docking at. Will attend the ceremonies where passengers get to meet the captain and have dinner, all the while making sure the ship is on course and being aware of any no extreme conditions. The cruise ship's captain is also responsible for making sure the passengers are safe at all times. This means that they will conduct safety drills soon after the passengers board the boat. Also must be aware of any protocol where extraordinary conditions are underway such as volcanic ash !!!!!!

Captain Sarah Breton, was officially welcomed as Master of the ship by P&O Cruises first female managing director, Carol Marlow.

Sarah, has served on board Royal Princess (now Artemis), Sky Princess, Canberra, Pacific PrincessGrand Princess and Star Princess as third officer, second officer, navigator, first officer and safety officer. She was first promoted to staff captain in 2001 on the original Pacific Princess and then went on to serve onboard Coral Princess, Tahitian Princess, the new Pacific Princess, Artemis and most recently Ocean Village.

Caribbean Cruise why i want to go back !

There is nothing I love more than taking my annual holiday in December , work is quiet and there is nothing better than escaping the winter blues and having a great tan ready for christmas .

Now don't get me wrong I love the whole cruising life and selling cruising , however i didn't think that at this point in my life i would be cruising myself as my annual holiday.
( not that i think cruising is just for the more, how shall i say it more mature ),
Reason being I like the easy life relaxing in the day , and a nice wonder and a dance on the evening, where ever the mood may take you.

Last year on my list was Barbados - which i found more expensive , so we looked at combining with a cruise
not as easy as you would think as many ships in Barbados are the likes of P & O, Princess doing the 2 weeks voyages , because these cruise lines use charter flights we get no reduction for not taking the flights so make it again more expensive.

We ended up on the Fred Olsen Braemer which i was looking forward too it was a 10 night voyage combined with 3 nights stay in Barbados.

I was hooked the Caribbean islands i had stayed in the past were generally a combination of an all-inclusive hotel and a few excursions here and their, so i couldn't say i had "seen much of the island " in the 2 weeks.

Being on a cruise really opened my eyes waking up most morning in a different Island , i didn't do much else then have a nice walk about and visit the best local beach.

My evening were spent over eating and a few drinks with great entertainment.

When at sea my day was spent sunbathing on top deck , and also a visit to the gym.

The idea sounds good but where to start .........What's involved........

Contact the Celebrations Department to check your chosen cruise has availability for weddings.

Once wedding availability is confirmed, you will need to book your cruise with us.

Once your cruise booking is confirmed, they reserve your weddings at sea These will be placed on courtesy hold for a period of two weeks.

Fill in booking form , within the two weeks and send.

On receipt of your booking form P O will contact you to arrange a 25% deposit for the weddings at sea package. Please note all payments and paperwork for your wedding are processed directly through the weddings at sea department.

Approximately 3 months prior to departure you will receive your weddings at sea Planning Form and Form A (Notice of Intended Marriage).

On the Planning Form, please complete the requested details relating to your wedding ceremony, including any extras touches you wish to book.

Please also complete Form A (Notice of Intended Marriage). This enables us to apply for the necessary marriage licence on your behalf.

Please return the signed and completed Planning Form and Form A (Notice of Intended Marriage) to us within 14 days.

On receipt of your Planning Form and Form A (Notice of Intended Marriage) we will contact you to confirm all details and to process the remaining balance for the weddings at sea package, licence fees and any extra touches required.

Well 2 of the big booking months are over ( January / February ), and with the next fast approaching April....

When is the best time to book ?
It's something that I am asked many times a day , and when it comes to book my annual holidays i always wonder.

Most cruise lines promote they highest saving on launch and this is normally the case. However cruise lines do promote different offers once every month or so, making it hard to tell , but generally this will work out to be the same value, so for example if the cruise line is offering £50 on board credit one month , the next month the offer is a free upgrade ! the money value will work out the same.

Booking on launch ! - This is the time to book, you get the brochure prices with the maximum early booking offer so the price you see is the price you get. You get all the early booking offers for example free car parking and on board credit , on selected cruise lines.
Are typically past passengers who book that this time , ( which also can come with extra discounts and higher offers )

Advantages ! / Disadvantages !

A- Get the best available cabin for the grade ! ( the best cabins always sell first )

A-Get the cabin number you want ,
A-Get the Cruise you want ( new ships will sell out fast )
A-Get all the benefits you are entitled to ! ( free child places sell extremely fast )
A-Paying deposit up front is a good way to budget.
D- Booking so far in advance ( getting insurance )
D- Unfair if the cruise is reduced passengers pay less then you
A- If they do still have availability last minute and reduce cabins your cabin could be upgraded. ( this is optional it can be declined if you want a cabin number.

Booking last minute waiting on a the cruise you want !- So you know the cruise you want however you have decided to wait just in case it is reduced.
D- having no control on your cabin location.( late offers normally don't allocate a cabin number before you arrive.
A- Price reduction
D- No complimentary car parking or on board credit

Booking last minute cheap. - This is a hard one , you need to be extremely flexible on dates , and destinations. Fly cruises I recommend you don't wait any longer then 12-10 weeks prior as cruise lines sell their seat allocation back to the airline , so no flights.
A- Creating your own. taking advantage of low cost airlines , with reduced cruise rates are good value for money.
D- School holidays or family cabins are few and far between.

If you are affected by price reductions , always talk to your agent , it is likely the have been asked the same question before ,and will work out the latest offers and put your mind to rest. and however if it does turn out to not be in your favour we work very closely with the cruise lines and can nine times out of ten come up with a solution.

True Or False ? Sea Sickness

I always try and make the time to call my customers on their return from there cruise. It always is great to hear about their own personal experiences and how they differ.

I was delighted to talk to one of my customers today about the Oasis Of The Seas.

I was very surprised to hear that the family suffered from sea sickness on her voyage, now I always thought that the bigger the cruise line the less likely you would suffer from sea sickness, with the Oasis of the Seas the largest cruise ship on the waters at the moment coming in at 222,900 tons carrying almost 5400 passengers
that's a lot of unwell passengers.

I remember once being told that cruise lines deliberately avoid using stabilizers in order for their passengers to eat less food !!!!

I laughed this off as the lines surly want you to drink and gamble and spend as much money possible on your cruise.

Have you ever heard anything like this ?

And where really is the best location for your cabin to avoid sea sickness ?

Mid-ship cabins located more central are said to be more stable.

Lower deck cabins feel less motion.

Higher deck cabins fell more rocking

Forward of the ship feels more motion.

Do we agree with me ? or does anyone else out there have any more tips?

BA STRIKE ......ARE WE PUT OFF BOOKING WITH THEM ?

The ( BA ) British Airways cabin crew strike , has seemed to going on for ever, And with the Easter holidays fast approaching ,we have many clients that may well be affected IF strike action does indeed go ahead.

The latest statement from CEO ,Willie Walsh.

"Unite, the union that represents our BA cabin crew, has not as yet announced any strike dates. It must tell us by 15 March if it intends to take strike action and it cannot go on strike without first giving us seven days notice."

So what are they offering if your flights are announced and are affected?

*You will be able to rebook, free of charge and subject to availability, onto other British Airways flights outside of the strike period for up to 355 days from the original date of travel.?

*Refunds will only be available if flights are actually cancelled or if the original booking conditions allow.

In the event that cancellations are made due to strike action, what are they offering ?

*Rebook onto another British Airways flight to the same destination within 355 days of the original date of travel

*Rebook onto another British Airways flight to/from the nearest alternative airport (for example, if booked to/from Boston you could rebook to/from Philadelphia or New York)

*Cancel your booking and get a refund.

So it's a waiting game for all passengers due to fly around the Easter Holidays.

What Not To Wear

One of the most asked questions I have from my clients is "WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE"
Whether you're a first time cruiser or cruised many times before. When it comes the time to pack, the question arises !

With this in mind here is a little overview of What not to Wear.

Swim wear not allowed in restaurant's

Day time - you can wear shorts & T -shirts. Just cover up.

What to wear on a Formal Night

* black tie or formal dark suit for gentleman.
* evening dress or formal attire for ladies.

What to wear on a Semi-Formal / Smart casual night.

* Jacket with tie for gentleman

*cocktail dress,trousers suit for ladies

What about shore attire

* Top tip - Always be comfortable ! And remember to take with you what you will need i.e. sunscreen , umbrella , wherever you may be in the world.

Dinning in your cabin.

Please your-self. Just remember

It will be delivered to your cabin.

Of course all cruise lines vary , most cruise lines will have a formal and informal evening. Unless you are cruising on an all informal cruise line. Always check.

The Palma programme starts in May 2011 and will include two seven-night itineraries to the Italian Mediterranean and the Spanish Mediterranean, which can be combined into a 14-night trip.

The largest of the Spanish Balearic Islands, Majorca is one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations for all nationalities, offering a wide range of attractions to suit all ages.

Weather: Typically Mediterranean with hot, dry summers

Food: A variety of salads, Tapas and menus of the day. Seafood is also a favourite dish of the Spanish. If you prefer British dishes, then these can be found with ease also.

Shopping: Good buys are spirits and wines, leather goods and pottery. Best shopping is in the main resorts and Palma where you can find everything from designer shops to flea markets.

With now so many low cost flights daily to Palma
this will be a great opportunity to combine a weeks cruise with a weeks stay. At reasonable prices perfect for the advance family.

I have been to Majorca many times on holiday staying in the very popular Alcudia. I highly recommend this for families offering 7 mile long white sandy beach. I was that impressed i have booked again for this May.
Transfer time to Alcudia is around 45 minutes costs around 65 euros.

For the nightlife Palma Nova & Magaluf is the way to go lazy days and plenty going on in the evening.
I recommend the Pirates show very funny but be warned they have a family show and an adult show so be carfull what your booking if the children are with you.
Transfer time is around 20 minutes and will cost around 30 euros.

Other resorts i have stayed are Cala a Dor offering many little cove beaches very laid back local life.
Puerto Pollensa again a quieter resort with a harbour for those lazy evening strolls after your evening meal watching the world go by.

Palma Majorca is overall a great holiday destination something for all !!!!!!

Watch this space ....... I think this will be a great destination for Royal Caribbean , and the family cruiser wanting to combine a cruise with a stay , as Ocaen Village was one of the lines that have offered this programme in the past. and will be, i am sure greatly missed...........

Independence Of The Seas - Impressed - Oh Yes!

Independence of the Seas is not just for the kids - there is so much to do for everyone.

You will be amazed - you can surf on the top deck, On the worlds very own first FLOWRIDER. They say it’s perfect for beginners to the most advance. It looks easy but believe you me it’s not as easy as it looks but all good fun and very enjoyable. And think of the workout which is very much needed to burn the extra calories.

Yes an ice-skating rink on board

Practice your figure of eights or if like me practice gracefully falling. Or simply watch one of the spectacular ice shows ( putting the celebrities on dancing on ice to shame)

MY TOP TIP !

I recommend you reserve your seat it gets very full on the evening shows

Shop to you drop in the Royal Promenade which is open 24 hours a day with cafes & Restaurants.

Here you will find a variety of shops , an English pub which was great for a sit down after all that WINDOW shopping . A pizzeria if you can squeeze any more food in. Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream. And my favourite Wine Bar . Entertainment is around the promenade most of the time from what I could see.

But you must go and see the Royal Promenade parade which is put on most days twice daily.

I Wish I had tried all eleven restaurants and twelve bars but I just run out of time, but what I can say they is more than enough choice for everyone ! And because there is so much choice nothing really felt crowed as I would of maybe expected , plenty of room in the main restaurants and the service was still exceptionally high.

I can honestly say you will never be without something to do from golf simulator,mini golf , fitness centre ,casino, and so much more for all coupled ages...... yes its very good for the children and I will always recommend it for the family holiday , so much to do for all , but I wouldn’t nesserselly be put off especially if avoiding school holidays , children are very well catered for and with much activates and separate zones for them, are they can be avoided.

No doubt that Independence is a big ship and will not suit everyone, but she does not have the feeling of being that big when you are onboard.

Overall, One of the best new ships I have seen in a long time.....

One that I would do again.

We all have our nightmare scenario , when it comes to our holidays , from the weather most of us are experiencing at the moment ( not making it to the port / airport on time !

and my very own which I am sure is very common indeed ,

my luggage not arriving at my destination.

I have known many unfortunate reasons for clients / family not making their holiday over the years, most commonly mislaid passports , when you have just not looked for it until it’s too late.

Extremely frustrating of course , understandably so , because this could of been avoided if only looked sooner.

Firstly I have to say I have great respect for my client , happy as ever , positive that he will make it and has told me when he does , him and his wife will be having a very large glass of gin & tonic.

I Will drink to that.

my client due to aboard and set sail on this world voyage has been doing nothing else then doing all he can to join the cruise at another port of call.

So why couldn’t my client make his derma holiday ........well.....

ROYAL MAIL lost their passports as this is a world cruise visas are required for selective destinations , passports need to be sent off to validate this. My client is now in hand of his passports and is ready to go , as he would need to visit London to obtain visas, cunard are allowing him to travel under the assumption that he cannot get off 2 ports of call.

To add insult to injury he may be charged a fee for not having a visa.

ONWARDS & UPWARDS .....

ON SATURDAY TO JOIN
THE WELCOMING PARTY

I'm sure we all hope my client gets to Rome o.k. with no more bad luck.

Major Refurbishment for Black Watch

Black Watch has completed her recent dry dock in December 2009

And returns to service following some major refurbishment work.

The work included a major refurbishment of the ship’s public areas,including a new casual dining area, which has been created in the space where the Braemar Lounge and Garden Café were situated.

The transformed area is now the Braemar Garden, a casual dining
area with seating for 120 persons, and replaces the Garden Café
which seated 80 persons.

One section of this newly created dining
area is screened off, creating a 40 seat room that can be used for
private dining. This new area has been completely refitted with
new soft furnishings, a new bar, and buffet.

Other areas of the ship have also received new soft furnishings,
including the Neptune Lounge, Pipers Bar, Glentanar Restaurant
and the Observatory Lounge. In addition, many cabin bathrooms
have been refitted.

On the technical side, Black Watch has also had her last three open
lifeboats replaced by two covered boats.
This means that some previously restricted views from cabins will
now be unobstructed views.

Cairo & The Great Pyramids are without a doubt one , If not the most fasinating areas I have visited & would revisit.
